About NBHSW - Service model
The principles of the screening model:
- The service model must be able to be applied across the whole of Wales, taking into account the urban areas in South and North Wales as well as the rural less populated districts in mid Wales. It also needs to be able to be carried out with the same effectiveness in the small district general hospitals as the larger teaching hospitals.
- There must be equitable provision for all babies and their families.
- The programme must be structured to enable comparable audit and quality assurance information to be collected from all programme sites.
- The programme must be evidence based on the available literature and trials and continue to be modified in light of developing evidence and experience.
- As many babies as possible should be screened in hospital with completion of the screening programme at a venue near to the child to reduce the non attendance rate.
- All stages of the test must be supported by written information.
